The Ledyard Colonels trailed by just one point, 33-32, inside the third quarter of a hotly contested Eastern Connecticut Conference matchup, Friday night. It is as close as they would get as New London big man Major Roman answered with a three-point play, followed by a thunderous dunk on the road at Standish Gymnasium in Ledyard.

Roman contributed 11 points and some awe-inspiring moments in New London’s 56-52 triumph over Ledyard. It was a much-needed victory for New London, who improved to 3-3 on the season with the victory. More importantly, the Whalers are 2-0 in the ECC after a rough non-conference stretch to begin the 2016-2017 campaign.

Steven Fletcher and Isiah McNair each scored 15 points for the Colonels, who fell to 5-2. It is the second loss in conference for Ledyard following a 19-point drubbing suffered at the hands of East Lyme on December 23.
