Devyn McCarty, a lefty from Platt (Meriden) High School, is the statewide CPTV UChoose Student-Athlete of the week. The senior received 44 percent of the 4,931 votes cast in this week’s poll.

McCarty helped his own cause last Friday in an 11-1 blowout of Plainville. He hit a grand slam. And, on the mound, he allowed one run on four hits. The run was unearned (Justin Weekes, Record Journal). McCarty will pitch next year for Mitchell College.

CPTV’s Frankie Graziano visited McCarty at school and asked Devyn about winning the award and what he does with his friends in their spare time. You can watch the interview in the video player above–and you’ll find out what needs to happen for Platt to win its first CCC South division title in 25 years.

Voting was introduced in the CPTV UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week poll in October of 2014. Since that time, over 80 winners have been crowned from 50 different towns. 300,000-plus votes have been cast in that time in support of our student-athletes recognized for their fine play on a weekly basis. Fans may participate in a given poll each Saturday at 6 p.m. until Monday night at 6 p.m.
