Defending CIAC Class LL and reigning FCIAC Girls Basketball champion Stamford dominated Staples-Westport on the road, 70-44 Friday night. Both teams came into the match-up with 11-4 records, but the Black Knights took advantage of the Wreckers early.

Stamford (12-4) led 18-0 four minutes into the game. The closest Staples (11-5) would get the rest of the way was a 16-point deficit midway through the third quarter.

Brooke Kelly led all scorers with 17 points. She nailed five three-point field goals on the night, including three triples in the first quarter that helped Stamford create early separation. The team’s top scorer this season is Alexa Kellner. She averaged 14 a game, but managed to put up 16 Friday.

Arianna Gerig, a freshman, continued to be Staples’ top performer on offense. She had 15.
