Pomperaug Regional High School Girls Basketball star Karli Opalka is this week’s UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week. McKee was voted for 1,983 times, garnering 50% of all votes cast in this week’s poll.

On December 20, New Fairfield shunned the Panthers by 12 points. Pomperaug avenged that loss Thursday behind a double-double from junior Karli Opalka. Her 21 points and 16 rebounds allowed Pomperaug to hand New Fairfield its first loss of the season.

Host Frankie Graziano interviewed Karli Opalka at Pomperaug-Southbury, which you can soon watch in this article’s video player. Opalka discusses being a leader as a junior on a young team and how she copes with winter, being that she is a “summer girl”.

Voting was introduced in the CPTV UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week poll in October of 2014. Since that time, over 70 winners have been crowned from 50 different towns. 250,000-plus votes have been cast in that time in support of our student-athletes recognized for their fine play on a weekly basis. Fans may participate in a given poll each Saturday at 6 p.m. until Monday night at 6 p.m.
