John Dytko (P) – Derby Baseball

Derby’s senior captain helped the Red Raiders on the mound and at the plate in its first win of the season, Saturday. Dytko pitched a complete game and hit a walk-off single. Derby beat Torrington 3-2.

Carly Marchitto (INF/OF) – Amity Regional (Woodbridge) Softball

Amity opened the season in dramatic fashion with a 4-3 walk-off victory against North Haven. The junior smacked an extra-inning home run. The Spartans have started the season 2-0 after being CIAC Class LL runners-up last year.

Shea Gendron (C/SS) – Norwich Free Academy Softball

The junior’s 5 RBI sparked Norwich Free Academy to knock off Fitch-Groton, 10-5—Fitch’s first regular season loss in 65 games. Gendron had three hits in an 11-1 manhandling of Montville, Saturday. NFA is 3-0.

Beca Findley (SS) – Seymour Softball

Like Marchitto, junior Beca Findley also hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth. Her solo shot to lead off the inning propelled the Wildcats to a 2-1 triumph over Torrington. The Wildcats opened the season with two wins against tough NVL rivals–The Red Raiders and Holy Cross-Waterbury.

The senior scored four goals, including the game-winner in overtime as the Trojans edged Guilford in their season opener Saturday, 8-7.
