Federal lawmakers from Connecticut are demanding answers from the warden of the federal prison in Danbury after they say they learned first responders were denied access to the facility during one of two recent natural gas leaks. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy and Rep. Jahana Hayes said Friday that they are urging Warden Diane Easter to order an “immediate assessment” of gas piping and other prison infrastructure protect the safety of inmates and staff. They say gas company workers responded to gas leak Dec. 26, but weren’t allowed in until the next day. Messages seeking comment were left for prison officials.
