The federal government has approved Connecticut’s request for a major disaster declaration in response to the damage caused by Tropical Storm Isaias last year. The declaration approves reimbursement for 75 percent of all eligible costs of damage caused by the storm. In addition a Hazard Mitigation Grant Program was also approved. The program helps fund any protective measures that can reduce the damages to life or property in the event of other natural disasters. Governor Ned Lamont made the request in September 2020 several weeks after the storm left the state with damage to infrastructure, roadblocks and over 700,000 power outages.
