Gov. Ned Lamont says he does not support the idea of increasing taxes on the state’s wealthiest residents. He was responding to a proposal by fellow Democrat, state Senate President Pro Tem Martin Looney. Looney is pitching a new statewide property tax that would target homes valued at more than $43o,ooo. A legislative estimate shows that property owners in Lamont’s home town of Greenwich would pay about 25 pecent of the statewide revenues if the new tax were implemented.
