The Hartford Courant’s parent company, Tribune Publishing, is moving forward with an acquisition bid from hedge fund Alden Global Capital. The news comes after the newspaper company considered a competing offer from two investors. Over the weekend, one of the investors, a Swiss billionaire, dropped out leaving the other — Maryland businessman Stewart Bainum — to fund the bid on his own. No date has been set for shareholders to consider Alden’s bid.
