Substance Use, Intimate Partner Violence, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: An APT Community Forum
December 20, 2023 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
EVENT STARTS AT 3:15pm
According to the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in four women will experience severe sexual, physical, or emotional violence from their partner. How do we tend to think about relationships where Intimate Partner Violence is occurring, and what role does PTSD play in substance use among women who experience violent relationships?
Dr. Tami Sullivan and Dr. E. Jennifer Edelman share some of the latest relevant research to raise awareness and stimulate discussion.
Bring your curiosity and desire to connect! We’ll cover topics like…
-the protective role of social connection in relation to sexual risk behavior
– the effect self-worth has on engagement in care
– how abusive partners can interfere, both actively and passively, with the decision to navigate into treatment
As always, APT Community Forums are a chance for people with clinical and community-based expertise and lived experience to come together and share perspectives.
