Alexa Bacoulis, Masuk-Monroe High School Softball, is the statewide CPTV UChoose Student-Athlete of the week. The junior received 43 percent of the votes cast in this week’s poll.

Her milestone 100th hit of her high school career pushed the Panthers to a Southwest Conference championship. Masuk edged Pomperaug Regional, 5-4, on Alexa’s walk-off RBI double. Bacoulis enters the state tournament with a .375 batting average and 28 RBI.

CPTV’s Frankie Graziano recently interviewed Bacoulis on the field at Masuk High and they discussed how the Panthers plan to get back to the state final after losing last year to Fitch-Groton in the CIAC Class L championship game. She also talks about her conference title clinching walk-off.

17-3 Masuk has a first-round bye in Class L. The Panthers will meet the winner of East Haven vs. Lauralton Hall (Milford) at home Wednesday.

Voting was introduced in the CPTV UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week poll in October of 2014. Since that time, over 80 winners have been crowned from 50 different towns. 300,000-plus votes have been cast in that time in support of our student-athletes recognized for their fine play on a weekly basis. Fans may participate in a given poll each Saturday at 6 p.m. until Monday night at 6 p.m.
