Allie McCormick, Pomperaug Regional Girls Lacrosse, is the statewide CPTV UChoose Student-Athlete of the week. The senior received 49 percent of the votes cast in this week’s poll.

The junior scored four goals including the game-winner in overtime Thursday against Masuk. The Panthers from Southbury knocked off the Panthers from Monroe 10-9 in a Southwest Conference quarterfinal matchup. They have now won 12 straight and are tied with East Lyme atop Class M with a 14-2 record.

Pomperaug is 14-2–the No. 2 seed in Class L–heading into the state playoffs. Just a few years ago, the team finished under .500 and since then, the Panthers have improved their wins mark each year. CPTV’s Frankie Graziano interviewed McCormick at school and they discussed what is responsible for the team’s turnaround. She also talks about her game-winner against Masuk.

Voting was introduced in the CPTV UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week poll in October of 2014. Since that time, over 80 winners have been crowned from 50 different towns. 300,000-plus votes have been cast in that time in support of our student-athletes recognized for their fine play on a weekly basis. Fans may participate in a given poll each Saturday at 6 p.m. until Monday night at 6 p.m.
