Mikey Buscetto nabbed 55% of this week’s votes to become statewide CPTV UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week. The junior is a guard on the Waterford High School Boys Basketball team.

The Lancers won three games in four days the week of Feb. 13. Buscetto, a 5’9″ enigmatic guard, was a big reason why. Waterford cut down East Lyme 86-80, Monday night, as Buscetto collected 29 points and 14 assists. Mikey scored 28 the next night in Waterford’s 8-point win over Woodstock Academy. He had another double-double in another tough one against Windham in the team’s third game in four days, Thursday: 14 points, 13 assists.

If all of that was not enough, the night before CPTV’s Frankie Graziano visited Buscetto at Waterford High for the UChoose interview, the junior drained a buzzer-beating three that downed Killingly, 68-65. Buscetto talked to Graziano about the game-winning shot and his hot streak (three double-doubles in four games) in the CPTV profile that can be seen in the above video player.

Voting was introduced in the CPTV UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week poll in October of 2014. Since that time, over 80 winners have been crowned from 50 different towns. 300,000-plus votes have been cast in that time in support of our student-athletes recognized for their fine play on a weekly basis. Fans may participate in a given poll each Saturday at 6 p.m. until Monday night at 6 p.m.
