Taylor Nowak a freshman forward on the West Haven/Sacred Heart-Hamden Girls Ice Hockey team, received 5,934 votes to become this week’s CPTV UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week. 15,806 votes were cast in this week’s poll–the second-highest total in the history of the UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week.

Nowak notched a hat-trick, Friday, as the Blue Devils/Sharks won its first-ever SCC Division II title.  According to Dan Nowak of GameTimeCT.com, Taylor had 13 of the Westies/Sharks 28 shots in the 4-1 victory over Amity/North Haven/Cheshire.

CPTV’s Frankie Graziano visited Bennett Rink in West Haven to catch up with the freshman who was still shocked about her nomination and the participation from her peers. Nowak also discusses the SCC Division title and what it means to play in front of the “bomb squad” in the CPTV profile that will soon be available in this article’s video player.

Voting was introduced in the CPTV UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week poll in October of 2014. Since that time, over 80 winners have been crowned from 50 different towns. 300,000-plus votes have been cast in that time in support of our student-athletes recognized for their fine play on a weekly basis. Fans may participate in a given poll each Saturday at 6 p.m. until Monday night at 6 p.m.
