Bridgeport public high schools will be opting out of the winter basketball season due to COVID concerns. On Wednesday, Central, Harding and Bassick high schools announced they would not be competing in interscholastic competition according to Hearst Connecticut . The news comes one days after youth sports across the state were given the greenlight to start practices by the Department of Public Health. Last week, the city’s superintendent Michael Testani said reopening schools in a safe manner and getting people vaccinated was his only focus. Unfortunately, sports isn’t part of the conversation at this point, Testani added.
