Governor Ned Lamont Tuesday held a ceremony to celebrate his recent signing of a bill that puts new regulations on utility companies. The measure was passed in a special session last week following a big Eversource rate hike over the summer, and prolonged outages following a tropical storm. The new law requires Eversource and United Illuminating to reimburse people for lost food and medicine after a long outage. It also ties the companies’ profits to reliability of electric service.
